May their Sacrifices be a constant reminder of the Cost of Freedom

This Veterans Day, we pause to honor those who answered the call to protect our country—the brave souls who faced the unimaginable, often carrying the weight of war long after they returned home.

They are our brothers, fathers, husbands, friends, and family members. Many have endured unspeakable pain and continue to battle invisible scars, a silent testament to the heavy cost of freedom.

We remember those who tragically lost their lives not only in combat but also in the quiet aftermath, struggling with wounds we could not see but that were no less real.

Their sacrifices, along with those of their families, remind us every day that our freedom has been dearly bought.

Today, let us honor them with gratitude, compassion, and a commitment to support all who serve, both seen and unseen.

As of the most recent data, Veteran suicide remains a significant concern in the United States. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) reports approximately 6,146 Veteran suicides in 2020, marking a slight decrease from previous years.

Despite some progress, rates remain higher than among the non-Veteran population. Overall, from 2001 to 2021, the Veteran suicide rate generally increased, peaking in 2018 with 6,718 suicides before seeing small annual declines through 2021. The VA’s comprehensive 2023 Annual Report continues to analyze this trend, focusing on strategies that promote Veteran well-being, such as the Veterans Crisis Line and expanded access to emergency mental health care.
